The Wireoglyphics Series: In the course of his travels Derek spends many nights camping at disused farmsteads and other locations. It is here, with what began as a casual picking up of a piece of wire, that the momentum grew and resulted, after a number of years, in a fascinating collection that provides poignant glimpses into the endeavours of the past inhabitants. Viewing these wires lying together as a group on the gallery floor, one finds oneself reflecting deeply about both the history of the individual forms and how collectively they symbolize in a sense a language of their particular place and time. Thus the term Wireoglyphics was coined; and all the wires were photographed individually both with each wire exactly as found and in true proportion to each other. This print is a digital compilation of a portion of the collection that remains a work in progress. |
